Type Locality and Naming
Umlatodoh Limestone Member of the Sylhet Fm type section is in the Um Sohryngkew river section. [Original Publication: Wilson, G.F., and Metre W.B. 1953: Assam and Arakan, In: Science of Petroleum, vol. 6(1), pp. 119-123]
Synonyms: This is a member of the Sylhet Formation. Recognized by Wilson and Metre (1953) it is typically developed in the Um Sohryngkew River section.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone: The Umlatodoh Limestone Member of the Sylhet Fm is dark grey and crystalline. It is well bedded, highly joined, hard and compact and highly fossiliferous. Thickness is 83 m. Laterally toward the Garo hills, it grades into calcareous sandstones or quartz sandstones of the Tura Fm. West of Lumshnong, it measures about 40 m thickness.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The lower contact with the coal-bearing Sylhet LakadongSstMbr Fm is conformable.
Upper contact
It shows interbanding with sandstone and shale both near the lower and upper contact. The next higher Sylhet member is the Sylhet NarpuhSstMbr Fm
Regional extent
It is typically developed in the Um Sohryngkew River section. It extends from west of Therriaghat to the eastern margin of the South Shillong Plateau.
